Loot Crate “Origins” Unboxing & Review – January 2017

loot crate origins review

Another year of subscription box reviews begins with the Loot Crate “Origins” box for January 2017. This box was meant to be somewhat of a throwback theme with old school franchises like: Superman, TMNT, Captain America, & Super Mario! There seems to be some good buzz surrounding this theme so lets just jump in and take a look inside the box!

…alright and let’s get a closer look at everything…

TMNT “Origins” Lootpin

Even though I don’t care for pins you have to admit this is pretty awesome. This month’s digital content that the pin “unlocks” are issues 1-5 of the Ninja Turtles comics. I always have good intentions of redeeming my Loot Crate digital content but the truth is I hardly ever do lol.

Action Comics Issue #1 Reprint

This is a special edition reprint of the original Action Comics issue #1 from June of 1938. In keeping with the Origins theme this is the comic where Superman fist appeared like almost 80 years ago!?! It boggles the mind and I am actually really excited to read this one.

TMNT Geeky Tikis Statue

You could have received any of the four Ninja Turtles or Shredder in the box. I got Raphael which is cool but the Shredder would have been awesome! They are ceramic and hollow like a shot glass but it reminds me more of like a small flower pot or something. They are stackable if you have more than one too. I’m not sure how I will use mine yet but it is still very cool looking.

1940’s Captain America Shield Replica (1:6 scale)

I tell you what, this thing is bad ass and I’m not even really a Captain America fan (Team Iron Man 4 Life)! The shield is made of metal and comes with a really nice quality stand for a perfect looking display. This is definitely a keeper!

The Original Super Mario Shirt

I was a bit puzzled by the “since 1981” part of the shirt because I was thinking Mario on the NES and not the first appearance in the arcade game Donkey Kong. (BTW I found the original game you can play online in your browser for free if you’re interested). I am a retro gamer all the way so I absolutely love this shirt & as with all Loot Crate shirts, it’s super soft and incredibly comfortable!

…and that was the Loot Crate “Origins” box for January 2017. Overall I think this was a really great box and they executed the theme perfectly. If I were a bigger fan of Superman & Captain America it would have been a near perfect box but I still love everything I got. Next month’s theme is “Build” and there are some pretty exciting franchises that have been announced including: Batman, Tetris, Lego Dimensions, & the Power Rangers!
