Firefly Cargo Crate “Leaf on the Wind” Unboxing & Review – September 2016

firefly cargo crate review

The Firefly Cargo Crate is a bi-monthly subscription box from Loot Crate that caters to the die hard fans of the Firefly TV series. Each box features a different character from the show and so far we’ve had: Kaylee, Jayne, Zoe, and now Hoban Washburne. The theme for the September 2016 box is “A Leaf on the Wind” and it was pretty late shipping out to the point that we received it early October. So how about we check out what’s inside this box in my latest unboxing video…

…alright you’ve seen the video now check out the photos…

Firefly Paper Goods

This month had a TON of paper items inside. First we had a “quarantine” door hanger that is just a glorified ad for a phone app. Next we have the Baumonde sticker that is at par with all of the other stickers from past boxes. The Flux “Saffron” bonus cards are only useful if you actually have the Flux game… which I don’t so they have little value. And finally the Interplanetary Flash Cards which are actually pretty interesting. There’s one for each of the major planets from the show with some information about them on the back side. They’re high quality and nice looking… most definitely the best paper item in the bunch.

Firefly “I’m a Leaf on the Wind” Pin

The thing about this pin is that the cartoon version of Wash really doesn’t look all that great. It’s just a pin so I’m not upset but I really don’t care for this design at all.

The Many Faces of Wash When Flying Serenity Shirt

I hate to complain about another item in the box but I really don’t like this shirt design …like at all. It’s the cartoon Wash that just doesn’t look right to me. I mean if you were to show me this character without any of the words on it I would not be able to tell you who it is. That really bums me out because every other shirt in the Firefly Cargo Crate boxes have been epic. So I guess I have a new shirt to wear like when I’m mowing the lawn or something.

Firefly Inevitable Betrayal Playset

This is an awesome addition to the Wash box for sure. The dinosaur clip was literally 40 seconds out of the entire series but it’s basically all poor Wash will be remembered for. The Qmx made dinosaurs are slightly different from the ones used in the show… I’m guessing they weren’t able to get the licensing for the originals or something. If you notice in the photo, my T Rex has a bum leg that is crooked. He still stands up but is pretty unstable… I’m not sure if anyone else has had this same issue.

Little Damn Heroes “Hoban Washburne” – Qmx Mini Masters Figure

Ok since I’m in a picky mood I will state an observation about this statue while I’m at it… Wash is very plain with very little detail and a dull pose. Ok that might be a little too harsh because the dinosaurs he is holding are incredibly detailed and the outfit is true to life from the show. But when you put him next to the rest of the figures they all look way better. Ok gripe over, I still love these Mini Masters and I want to collect them all so he is still a great addition to my collection.

…and that was the Firefly Cargo Crate “A Leaf on the Wind” themed box for September 2016. As you can tell, I really didn’t care for this box too much which is a shame because every other Firefly Cargo Crate has been awesome. For starters there were WAY too many paper items and then to top that off with a bunch of cartoon Wash images… I like the Dinos and of course the Figure but for the cost of this box I think they could have done better. Overall I am just viewing this box as the one I had to get to complete my Little Damn Heroes collection.
