Otakukini is a relatively new anime subscription box. I received the January and February boxes at the same time so I decided to space out their reviews which is why you are seeing this so late. The theme for February is “Connexion” or “Connection” depending on where you look. (I believe the improper spelling may have been a translation error). The Otakukini is available in 2 sizes: the Champion & the Ultimate in which the Ultimate box is obviously the bigger of the 2. Naturally I’ve got the Ultimate box so check out the unboxing and then we will get to the photos…
…alright that was the video & here are the photos…
Otakukini Connection Button
Each month there is a button for the theme much like every other subscription box out there. The Otakukini buttons are lager than most and feature a symbol that somewhat ties into the theme.
Inside the first gashapon was a small Digimon character. I don’t follow the series so I don’t know anything about him but he looks mecha and that’s cool enough for me. Who doesn’t want an awesome little mecha dinosaur?
One Piece Lantern Gashapon
Inside my second gashapon was a One Piece lantern. You can’t tell from the photo but it actually lights up! It’s pretty small though and doesn’t give off much light.
Dragon Ball Heroes Snack & Collectible Card
At first I thought this was a mini figure lol. I wasn’t paying attention until I opened it. It was some type of cheese curl I believe and on the back was a collectible card.
Dengeki Daisy Manga
I have never heard of Dengeki Daisy before but according to the back it’s about a girl who communicates with a mysterious person named Daisy through her dead brother’s cell phone. The plot didn’t exactly make much sense from the back of the book so I will have to give it a read in order to understand what it’s all about.
Dead Fred Pen Holder
This is more of a novelty item and not anything that has to do with anime. I saw this before at a store and wanted to get it but …well I never did. I think it’s awesome and now Fred hangs out on my desk stabbed all nice and properly with my pen.
Kingdom Hearts Shadow Sora Shirt
I never really got into Kingdom Hearts. It came out at a time when I had completely worn myself out of that type of RPG game and I had moved on to bigger and better things. I’m still somewhat familiar with the universe though… this is Shadow Sora from Kingdom Hearts 2 and despite the fact that I don’t know much more than that… it’s an awesome design and I will totally wear it.
One Piece Chopper’s Hat
Yes that is, in fact, a big puffy Chopper hat. To really get the full effect of this hat you need to check out my video as I just had to wear it! It’s funny, ridiculous, and awesome all at the same time. I’m not sure where I will ever wear it… ya know lol.
Shonen Jump Bleach Double Feature DVD
This is awesome! There was a DVD in my last box too… hopefully this will be a regular thing. I try to catch up on anime on Netflix but there is so much to choose from I often don’t know where to start. Actually owning the DVD gives me a reason to watch… I know of Bleach but have never seen it so this is perfect for me!
…and that was the Otakukini “Connection” theme for February 2016. The Champion box runs $25/month plus shipping while the Ultimate box runs $45/month plus shipping. The Ultimate box gets everything that’s in the Champion plus a few extra high value items that make the upgrade worthwhile!
If you want to subscribe to Otakukini, you can visit their website by clicking here. The theme for April 2016 is “Summoning” which has already sold out so you will have to wait for the May theme if you would like to try them out.
Be sure to check out my other subscription box reviews, and follow me on social media so you never miss another unboxing!
