Otakukini “Villain Saga” Unboxing & Review – January 2016

otakukini review

Anime subscription boxes are really taking off in popularity. Only a year ago there were basically 2 options and now there are tons! Otakukini is one of the newest anime subscription boxes on the scene. They offer 2 sizes: The Champion box is the regular sized box that includes 4-6 items for $25/month + shipping, the larger box is, of course, named the Ultimate box and includes 7-9 items which is everything in the Champion box plus some extra, higher value items.

The theme for January 2016 was “Villain Saga” and yes I know that it’s well past January but this box ships from overseas and got held up at customs for a while. (These things happen on occasion and is completely out of the control of the box company). I got the Ultimate box which had to be split into 2 separate boxes in order to fit all of the items. So, anxious to see what’s inside?? Check out my unboxing!

…so lets get a closer look at everything…

Meiji Hello Panda Candy

These are delicious! I’ve had them before and literally ate them right after I shot the unboxing video… you’re looking at the photo of an empty box lol.

Otakukini Buttons

Almost all box companies have a monthly pin. I like that the Otakukini pins are much bigger than most others.

Attack on Titan Poster

I love Attack on Titan and this recruiting poster is also very retro looking which is another quality I like about it. With the folds in it though I probably wont make use of it unless my kids want it up on thir wall.

Full Metal Alchemist Shirt

I’ve seen Full Metal Alchemist before but it is not one that I have sat down and watched multiple episodes. I’m not familiar with this symbol but it is still a very cool shirt design. FMA is definitely on my list to check out in the future though.

Deathnote Manga

This is another one I am not familiar with. From what I understand it’s about a notebook that grants someone the ability to kill anyone and the character that owns it is trying to take over the world as a god. It sounds like it’s right up my alley and I will definitely give this one a read!

Naruto Headband

You really need to see my unboxing video to appreciate this item. It seems like it is a really good quality headband and it looks like a perfect replica.

MechaGodzilla Figure

I love all things mecha so this MechaGodzilla is perfect for me. He is a mini version of the metallic titan and will go well next to my other Mechagodzilla figures.

Perfect Cell Funko Pop

Who doesnt love Funko Pops? This Perfect Cell Funko Pop has really nice detail and will go perfectly in my Pop collection.

Dragon Ball Z Movie

Yes there is a full movie in the box! I’ve never seen the Dragon Ball Z movie so I am excited to watch it! I never got into the series but usually after watching movies like this one I get hooked and binge watch the rest.

…and that was the Otakukini for January 2016. Overall I think it was a great box with a decent value for the price. My only downfall is that I’m getting so many anime boxes that I cant keep up with watching all of the different series featured. I already have the February Otakukini as they both showed up at the same time… the unboxing is already done and posted on YouTube …and the review will be along shortly here. I’m also expecting the March box pretty soon so be on the lookout for that one too.
The theme for April is “Summoning” and has already started to sell out (I believe there are still some Ultimate boxes left). If you want to try Otakukini for yourself, you can visit their website by clicking here.
