Firefly Cargo Crate “Everything is Shiny” Unboxing & Review – March 2016

Firefly Cargo Crate review

The Firefly Cargo Crate has finally arrived! If you haven’t heard, Loot Crate & QMx got together to create a Firefly themed subscription box. Dubbed the Firefly Cargo Crate, this is a bi-monthly box that will focus on one Serenity crew member every other month and features an exclusive QMx “Little Damn Heroes” figure inside. The premiere box is themed “Everything is Shiny” and features everyone’s favorite little mechanic Kaylee Frye. I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this box and now… I present it to you…

…pretty awesome box eh? I know you want some better photos of everything so I wont keep you from them…

Firefly Cargo Crate Founders Pin

This arrived about a month before the box shipped. It seemed odd to get it so early so I’m guessing that maybe some of the people who ordered it towards the end didn’t get one? Or possibly it was an afterthought and they couldn’t get it in the box for some reason. Either way it is a very cool looking pin… and that’s a lot coming from someone who generally doesn’t like getting pins lol.

“Everything’s Shiny Cap’n” Pin

This could be the reason that the other pin shipped separately …because they already had a pin for the box. This is definitely all Kaylee with the parasol pattern on the top there. My guess is that each pin will have a similar tie in to the featured character. I know it’s the Loot Crate way and there are many pin collectors out there but for me I haven’t figured out a good way to make use of all the geeky pins.

Exported From Persephone Sticker

It’s a bumper sticker of decent quality. I’m not big on stickers so I’m not sure what, if anything, I will be doing with it.

Firefly Game Cards

These appear to be 2 specialized game cards for the Firefly card game. I don’t have the game and don’t know much about it… if this is going to be a regular item in all of the boxes I think I’ll have to pick it up. It would have been cool if they put the actual game in the box or maybe had like a coupon to purchase the game at a discount.

Firefly Original Concept Art

I’m wondering if this will be another regular item for the box. This is the concept art for a Reaver ship and grappler by Timothy Earls. I wasn’t familiar with him but after a quick Google search I discovered he has worked on a crapton of geeky shows and movies over the years including some Star Trek & Babylon 5 episodes. It appears he created the look of the Firefly universe as well.

Kaylee’s Shindig Parasols – Drink Umbrellas

These are somewhat cheesy and yet so perfect for a Kaylee themed box. They’re obviously modeled after the Parasol Kaylee owns so you could throw a Firefly themed party sometime or ya know in my case… dress up my drinks as I sit friendless and alone in my kitchen …lol I kid I kid. Actually if I ever happen to use these I’m betting no one at the party would even know what Firefly was let alone the Parasol in their drink.

Firefly Q Bits Mystery Figure

I got Simon and according to the spoiler sheet, you could only get him or Jayne Cobb. I’m really sad that I didn’t get Jayne because he is probably my most favorite character on the show. Simon is just ok and aside from him being Kaylee’s love interest he really didn’t add much to anything in my opinion. I know there are probably some Simon fans out there who will disagree and you are probably right lol.

Kaylee Bear Plush

This is actually really clever and even though I don’t typically like plushies, this one is definitely an exception. There’s so much attention to detail in this bear right down to the Kaylee patch on the jumpsuit where the bear patch would be on Kaylee. This one is definitely a keeper!

Kaylee Frye Little Damn Heroes Mini Masters Figure

Everyone knew this would be in the box because it has been advertised from day 1. The only thing we really didn’t know was the size. The detail on this figure is amazing and the paint job is top notch! I was a little confused putting it together on my video and accidentally put the parasol on wrong …but all is corrected now. Each box will contain another figure from the series and eventually… you will have the whole crew. BUT since this crate is bi-monthly it will take you a good year and a half to collect them all.

…and that was the Firefly Cargo Crate “Everything is Shiny” box for March 2016. I think it was a great start for the box and I’m excited to see where they go from here. The next theme has already been announced which is “Let’s Be Bad Guys” and will feature none other than Jayne Cobb!
