Loot Anime “Equip” Unboxing & Review – January 2016

Loot Anime review

It’s time for Episode 3 of Loot Crate’s Loot Anime box. The theme for January 2016 is “Equip” and features items from Kill La Kill, Akame Ga Kill, and Dragonball Z! From what I’ve seen, Loot Anime is getting some mixed reviews… some people absolutely love it while others want it to be more like other Anime boxes on the market with more Japanese items and less Americanized Anime Items inside. Me, I like what they are doing but wouldn’t mind a change if it ever happened. But anyways… let’s take a look at what was inside this month’s box…

…ok now let’s see that stuff up close!…

Loot Anime “Equip” Charm

I don’t use these but I really like the way they look. It’s the anime version of the Loot Crate button and you get a themed charm each and every month.

Hi-Chew Candy

So it seems this might become a thing with the Loot Anime box. Last month we got some Japanese candy and now again in this box. If you want to get technical, this is a California distributor as it is printed on the packaging but the candy itself originates from Japan.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Sword Pen

It’s a sword… it’s a pen… it’s a sword pen. If I’m not mistaken, Loot Crate had a very similar item last year from a different video game that was also a pen. I love the detail in this sword, it looks very realistic with nice sculpting and paint. It is, however, really awkward as a pen which I know isn’t it’s real purpose but then …why make it a pen at all? I don’t play Monster Hunter so I have no attachment to the sword itself except that its just a really really cool looking sword.

Akame Ga Kill! Tote Bag

I watched Akame Ga Kill! for the first time when Loot Anime announced it would be in this month’s box. I have to say that this is definitely a show that I could get hooked on! As I watched the first few episodes I got excited at the things that could possibly be in the box but I definitely didn’t expect a tote bag. Not that it’s a bad item but it is sorta “blah” seeing as that there are no characters represented on it just some weapon sketches …it’s just … well dull. It’s a bit small but I will still figure out a use for it… I always need reusable bags.

Steins;Gate Manga with Loot Anime Exclusive Cover

I have never heard of Steins Gate prior to receiving the box but it sounds really interesting! Apparently some college students accidentally discover time travel and use it to take on an evil organization. In addition to the Manga, it has also been made into a series & video game so I’m actually surprised I have not run across this title sooner.

Dragon Ball Z Scouter

No self respecting Dragon Ball Z fan would be caught dead without their official scouter. Of course I’m not really a fan so that doesn’t apply to me lol. You could have got either the red or green scouter in the box… I really do like the item and even though I don’t watch the show, I’ve seen enough episodes to appreciate this item. Who knows, maybe I’ll get into it someday down the road. The scouter itself is somewhat low quality in that it tends to fall apart in my experience (it comes in pieces if you didn’t see me struggle with it in the video)

Kill La Kill Scissor Blade Shirt

This is another anime I just discovered because it was announced to be in the box. I really like this series too except because of the over-sexualized outfits and such it’s not one that I can watch out in the living room with the kids. I really like the design of this shirt and I’m glad that the Ryuko character is just a silhouette since …well you know …her outfit is pretty revealing lol.

loot anime review

…and that was the Loot Anime “Equip” box for January 2016. I thought they did a decent job but I still wish they would get away from things like bags and pens for the sake of being “exclusive” and give us a nice figure or something that will display nice. 3 boxes in and I have nothing to display on my geeky shelves but a mystery mini. But I plan on keeping this one going, partly because I love discovering new Anime but also because the reader response on this box has been incredible! So a big “thank you: to all of you out there who come to check out these boxes! 🙂
