Hero Crate “Battle of the Forces” Unboxing & Review – December 2015

hero crate review

It’s been quite a while since I reviewed a Hero Crate so I figured it was time to revisit them when they announced a Star Wars theme for December. The theme is titled “Battle of the Forces” and Hero Crate covers the light side while their other box, the Villain Crate gets the Dark Side.  Unfortunately Hero Crate just announced that they are closing and no longer taking orders but you can still take a look at all od December’s Star Wars geekyness…

…alright now we move on to the photos…

Wonder Woman Bottle Opener

What? Wonder Woman??? Well apparently there was some type of mix up in the November box which was themed… what else but Wonder Woman… and so they included this little extra in the box to make up for it. This is actually a very nice “bar blade” type opener which would have served me well back in the day. Unfortunately I don’t drink like I used to so this will mostly just sit in the drawer reminding me how much I don’t drink anymore lol.

Film Cell Bookmark

At first I thought these might have been home made bookmarks but then we got the exact same thing in January’s Nerd Block so I’m guessing there is a company that pitched these to the geeky subscription box companies on the cheap. Not that they are bad, it’s a film cell from Star Wars which is pretty cool but I think they could have been better constructed than plain laminate.

BB-8 Aluminum Bag Tag

Slightly different from a luggage tag this is a bag tag. It can be used as a luggage tag but also could be put on a school bag, gym bag, etc and not look goofy or lame. I actually think they are pretty cool and I will definitely be tagging something with it.

Force Awakens Funko Pop

You could have received one of several Funko Pops from the Force Awakens line. I got Rey which works out well because I don’t have her yet. I purposefully avoided getting any of the common Pops because I knew I would be getting plenty over the next few months in subscription boxes.

The Kessel Run T Shirt

I love this shirt design! There is one thing that Hero Crate does above all else… and that’s produce epic t shirts every month! What can I say, this combines all of my loves for Star Wars, Han & Chewie, and retro arcade gaming lol.

…and that was the Hero Crate “Battle of the Forces” theme for December 2015. This was a pretty average box for Hero Crate as they tend to follow a formula of Funko Pop + Epic Shirt + some extras. When it was priced at $30 you just about broke even with this box but now that they have lowered the price you do make out ahead. Unfortunately, as stated above, they are no longer in business so I have decided to scrap the Villain Crate review as there is no point in reviewing a dead box 🙁
