Ok time to take a look at the 1Up Box “Combat” geeky subscription box for August 2015. Lately I haven’t been feeling this new direction the 1Up Box has gone but they’ve been good for so long that I will continue to give them a chance. It seems they have changed their focus more towards kids than adults (well, as much as a box full of toys can be called “for adults” lol) but since I have 3 kids in the house, it’s not a big deal for me. So let’s dive in and see what they have to offer…
…well what did you think? Let’s take a closer look:
1Up Box Filler
The sticker is apparently from Super Smash Bros so I’ve been told but I’ve never played it. (I don’t own any of Nintendo’s recent game systems I’m strictly old school NES) So for me it’s just a sticker that has a somewhat cool looking design on it. The patch, on the other hand, it a mash up of Kung Fu Panda and Deadpool that doesn’t really do either side of the mash any justice. The one good feature on this patch above any other patch received in a geek box is that it has adhesive on it that will stick without ironing. Hopefully this will be the trend on future patches because I don’t iron them onto anything.
Pokemon Sweat Band
I’ve said it a hundred times, I don’t understand the “1 sweat band in a geek box” thing. Maybe it’s a regional thing because I’ve never seen anyone ever wearing a sweatband (or 2 for that matter). Needless to say, every time I get one I don’t understand why… so there’s my rant…
These sell for about $5
1Up Box Exclusive Dragonball
I find it funny that this is an exclusive Dragonball because the Super Geek Box had them as well (although they were a different size with no packaging). So yeah it’s a squishy ball… maybe a stress ball …yellow with 4 stars on it. I do know a big fan of the series so this will probably go to him.
Similar items sell for about $5
Dorbz Marvel Series One Wolverine
FINALLY an item I really like! The Dorbz are no Funko Pop, but I like collecting them just the same. I don’t keep mine in the box like I do my Pops either. This is the classic yellow spandex Wolverine from back in the days when I used to read comics.
These sell for about $8
Link vs. Ink Shirt
This is a Link / Splatoon mash-up shirt. I know nothing about the Splatoon game because, again, I dont have any recent Nintendo systems. It’s a cool design though and I will be giving it to my kids to wear because it’s more their style.
I value all shirts at $10
…and there you have the 1Up Box “Combat” Box for August 2015. An estimated $30 value for just under $20 shipped. I think I’m going to switch this subscription over to my kids since it seems that their last few boxes have been leaning more towards a younger crowd.
