Nerd Block “Ani-May” Unboxing & Review – May 2015

.
Nerd Block

Nerd Block went bold this month by choosing an all Anime theme for May 2015 called “Ani-May”. I myself like anime but don’t watch nearly enough of it to know about all the different series and what not but I always enjoy getting stuff to encourage me to check out new ones. Im sure they lost a few subscribers when they announced the theme but I bet they gained a few new ones too! Nerd Block has been rocking the geeky subscription boxes lately with some really great stuff so lets see how they did this month…

Personally I think they did a really great job! Lets take a closer look….

My Neighbor Totoro Buttons

Why did such a great movie get such a lame item in this box? Yes I know some of you love to collect buttons but I’m not big on them at all. Of all the times Ive said I don’t like plushies, this would have been a perfect plush item. It’s ok though… these are decent quality pins and they do display nice on the card so I may use them in that respect.

I couldn’t find these for sale but I would estimate them at $5

Cowboy Bebop Convertible Bandana

To me, this is an awesome item! I am such a big Cowboy Bebop fan that I welcome anything related to it in my geek box. I have a very similar item that I use for running that works great because its so versatile. It’s a simple loop of fabric but you can alter it to your specific needs depending on activity or weather. I will definitely be using this!

Similar items sell for about $10

Neon Genesis Evangelion Graphic Novel

I’ve heard of this series but never got around to reading or watching it. I think this is another winner for the box, especially since they included vol 1 so I can start from the beginning to get a feel for what the whole thing is about. I like being introduced to anime that I may never get around to checking out on my own.

This book sells for about $10

Attack on Titan Drawstring Bag

This is another series I’ve never got around to checking out. The bag design is really cool though and I will use it even though I don’t know much about it… if I ever get caught up with these subscription box reviews I’ll check it out.

Similar bags sell for about $10

Mobile Suit Gundam T-Shirt

What can I say… this shirt is AWESOME! But then again …slap a robot on something and I instantly like it. I’ve recently been getting into the Gundam series since they are more easily accessible these days than they used to be. I used to avoid them simply because there’s just so freaking many and I didn’t know where to start. But yeah …anyways …I like the shirt.

I value all shirts at $10

DragonBall Z Funko Pop

I believe there were 3 different Pops you could have received. Mine was “Perfect Cell” although I have no idea who he is because …I don’t watch DragonBall Z at all. Like never, and I really have no plans on doing so. GASP yes I know… I bet you think differently about me now don’t you? I know it’s a good series …I mean look at the size of it’s fan base …but it’s never really been much interest to me. But he is an awesome Pop figure and a welcome addition to my collection.

I value all Pops at $10

…and there you have it, Nerd Block’s “Ani-May” theme for May 2015. An estimated $55 value for $30 shipped. Again, I think they’ve done a great job with this box just like they have for their past few boxes. Next month’s theme is “British Invasion” which I have mixed feelings about because there is the potential for a Doctor Who overkill… but there are plenty of other great British items they could possibly be included to I am hopeful!
