Aboxalypse Custom Box Unboxing and Review – NOT A PROMO BOX

ABOXALYPSE

*DISCLAIMER* I do NOT endorse Aboxalypse in any way shape or form and advise you to PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Here we are again with yet another unboxing! This time it is the much hyped Aboxalypse Custom Box. For those who don’t know this company allows you to pick your themes, pick your price, and they will send you a box of stuff that’s value equals double the amount you paid. After a period of time you will be contacted with a shipping bill which you must then pay before they will send it to your door. To announce their service they shipped a carefully crafted box full of incredible things to a well known YouTuber (whom I have the utmost respect for and am a huge fan) to generate excitement for the company. I was curious how an average person’s box would stack up to such an awe inspiring promotional box so I ordered up one for $50 with a large range of themes, all which have huge merchandise markets leaving them with plenty of epic items to hand select for me. So after a month of waiting with no communication I finally received my shipping bill… eagerly I paid it …and without any shipping notice or tracking number, it arrived at my house about a week later. Heres what I received….

If you watched the video then you pretty much know the complete story. But for those who didn’t, heres a closer look at my $50 box.

3 Star Wars Command Plastic Figure Packs

Star Wars command has a large variety of sets with vehicles and such which you can find at any toy store. They are exactly like the plastic army men you can find at any dollar store only in the shape of Star Wars characters so they charge more for the licensing. You get one “special” figure in each pack that is molded in 2 colors instead of just 1.

These sell for $8 each and I received 3 for a total of $24 worth of plastic men

Portal Sentry Turret Blind Box

Portal has a great line of merchandise available for purchase. At the bottom of which is the Sentry Turret Blind Box. You get a random painted turret that is either open or closed. They would have been a lot more popular if they were functional instead of one style or the other.

These sell for $6 but you can get 6 for $20 as they are on sale pretty much all the time. With 2 turrets that’s $12

The Crow Funko Pop

Let me start by saying that I like the Crow and I like Funko Pops, I was just surprised to see this in my box where many of the themes I listed all had a large variety of Funko Pops associated with them. I was instructed by Aboxalypse (although I never asked them) that I should have been more specific about the exact type of Funko Pop I wanted. I misinterpreted their advertising of a curated box based on my themes to mean that they would send Pops based on those themes listed. I have no issue with this item but their unsolicited response to a comment I made on social media has brought this issue into the public eye.

This Pop sells for $10

Harley Quinn Funko Pop – Hot Topic Pre Release

Again I like this Pop figure but I had no mention of anything Harley Quinn or comic book super hero related in my themes. It is a Hot Topic Exclusive Pre Release which basically means it has a Hot Topic sticker on it and nothing more.

You can purchase this right from HT’s website for $10

Star Wars Comic with Think Geek Variant Cover

This is a great comic! I’ve said that the first 3 times I got it in the past 2 months but now it’s a little bit played out. Granted no one could know that I had already received this several times but when your customer base is one who would most likely have a Loot Crate or Nerd Block subscription this is a risky item. I hear there is a GameStop cover still out there, maybe I’ll get it in another box.

This comic sells for $6

Daryl Dixon’s Chopper Funko Pop

This would have been a really great item had it not been for it’s completely unacceptable condition. If you cant tell from this picture let me show you some highlights….

The plastic on the outside was torn and wrinkled

The box was warped and creased

This appears to be tape residue from where it was once sealed shut

and to top it off the front end was broken.

I contacted Aboxalypse about this item who immediately responded. I mistakenly said “used” when describing the condition of this item and Aboxalypse was quick to correct me. They educated me that sometimes Funko ships out products with less than perfect condition and that the item appeared to be fine when it was packaged for shipping. That the break must have occurred during transit to my house. My assumption was not baseless as Aboxalypse had advertised that they would purchase old unwanted items as seen here…

aboxalypse

Now I’m not saying that these items would be put in customers custom boxes… but you can plainly see how someone who receives an item in a condition such as mine …could assume that.

I have to point out that Aboxalypse offered to refund my money for the Daryl Pop or send me a replacement item

This item sells for $25

And that was my $50 Aboxalypse Custom Box. An estimated $87 value for $61 shipped. I would like to note that I politely DECLINED the offer to refund or replace the Daryl Dixon Pop figure as I found their customer service skills to be terrible. At no point did they accept any blame for shipping an item with clearly damaged packaging but instead blamed it on Funko, shipping to my house, and then they reprimanded me for “insulting their service” on social media and blamed my poor choices for such an uninspired, lazy, crappy box. I want NO further dealings with this company and my official advice to you is to ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK!
