Are you familiar with Nerd Block? You should be, I’ve been reviewing them on my blog for the last several months. Well they have branched out and created yet another box called the Arcade Block. And if it weren’t obvious, Arcade Block is a video game themed monthly subscription box delivered to your door for just $30 a month. Check out my unboxing video and see what’s inside the VERY FIRST box for this new series.
Since this was the first box, I had no idea what to expect… lets take a closer look at the items:
When it arrived it came in this classic NES box… VERY cool! This was a nice touch and I was excited to see what was inside.
First thing we have is the Legend Of Zelda Link T-Shirt
It’s a pretty nice shirt, I like the design. Very geeky but not over-the-top… I like it. I will wear this for sure.
As with any shirt in any box I assign it a $10 value
Next we have the Lara Croft Collectible Bust
Ever since I laid eyes on that hot little chicky back on the PS1, I’ve loved me some Lara Croft! I used to play the original Tomb Raider games until my eyes dried up in their sockets and I couldn’t see straight anymore. Me and my friends dubbed it “Tomb Raider Vision”… so I should be really excited to get this statue right? …meh. I mean its sorta cool but it’s never something I would willingly spend my money on. I really wish I had gotten something else instead.
But maybe you like it right? I found her on Amazon for only $8.43 …she looks like she may be a clearance item. Bummer!
Next we have the Pac-Man Motion Pen.
Well… it’s a pen. There’s a liquid in the end and the Pac-Man and ghosts move freely along the inside of the pen. I like it! Very retro, I had similar pens when I was a child… maybe even a Pac-Man pen just like this who knows. Hopefully the ink will last a while because once that’s gone it doesn’t have that much use…
I couldn’t find one on Amazon so I’ll assign it a $5 value …its just a pen after all.
Next is the Dixie Kong Backpack Buddy.
I’ve never been a fan of keychains or clippy things such as the Backpack Buddy. Not to mention we got Dixie Kong in a house full of boys… I might save some of this type of stuff for a big giveaway in the future. Anyways, I don’t like it… my kids don’t either… nuff said.
I did find her on Amazon for $8.95 though, in case you were wondering lol
Here are the Gears Of War 3 Cog Tags
Even if I were the most die-hard Gears Of War fan, I STILL wouldn’t want these. First of all we are talking about a game that was released 3 years ago as an xbox exclusive and I’m a PS3 guy. Second of all they’re stupid! I mean if you’re going to go this route AT LEAST get a cross platform title like some C.O.D. dog tags or something (or did I just spoil next month’s block lol)
They have them on Amazon for $11.28 however I should add that I saw them as cheap as $4 but they didn’t specify being “3” but who really cares right?
And finally its the Tetris Ice Cube Tray
Believe it or not, I like this. It’s something that I’ll actually use and is a nice geeky touch to any party situation. Although it’s pretty small and would take you days to build up any sort of usable amount for more than a person or 2.
They sell on Amazon for $8.75
And there you have the first ever Arcade Block. The grand total of all items is $52.41 for $30 shipped. Yes a good value but I was highly disappointed in this box. To me, it feels like they just had a bunch of obsolete clearance video game crap that they threw in a box for a quick cash grab. As a “launch” box I would have assumed they would pull out all the stops and pack it full of highly popular items as a hook to get more subscribers but I guessed wrong. I’m going to give it another chance and see what they have to offer next month… I understand you can’t please everyone in this type of situation so what I think is junk may be someone else’s “epic.
