Here we are once again with the highly anticipated LootCrate “Galactic” for September 2014. For those unaware, LootCrate is a monthly subscription box full of pop culture goodies sent to your door every month for the low low cost of $20 shipped. Each moth has a theme and this one, if you couldn’t tell, is called “Galactic”… promising Star Trek, Star Wars, and Firefly items inside…. so how did it turn out? Watch for yourself
If you don’t watch it for me… watch is for my poor child who’s dream is to become a YouTube sensation 😉 So lets get down to the stuff… I bring you: LootCrate Galactic!
So first item up is the Star Trek Tribble
Ok yes I know, it’s a ball of fur in a plastic container that has Star Trek printed on it… but anyone who has ever seen the classic “Tribble” episode has always wanted a tribble to call their own… and now I have one! In the end he will sit on the shelf for a few years and just be another thing I have to dust until I decide to get rid of it.
Next up we have the Exclusive Firefly Mal Figure
Loot Crate had SO much potential here with an exclusive Firefly item and they break out this…? First of all it looks nothing like Mal and I don’t remember him having a rifle in the series (maybe he did it’s been a while) but to be honest the Jayne figure pictured on the back with his knit cap would have been WAY better. OR better yet… if it were a little mini ship they would have just won the box wars forever. But ok, I’ve accepted him into my geeky collection but when I gaze up at him I just think “guy with a gun” and not Firefly.
I found Mystery Minis on Amazon for $5.99
Next up we have the Alien Action Figure:
I liked the idea of having an Alien figure but then I took him out of the packaging and his head piece keeps falling off and he wont stand on his own. His tongue action is under the headpiece and it’s either in or out… not really good for snapping at poor unsuspecting victims at all. I should have just left him in the box and I would still have all of those good feelings… now I have a crappy toy.
Up next is the Firefly Bank Heist Money
The money is lifelike and really detailed. It looks like it could almost pass for some strange Asian currency except for the fact that its like twice the size of actual money. It’s pretty cool I guess only not very useful… if I had more wall space in my “geek cave” I would get some type of Firefly picture then put these in the frame with it or something… otherwise they don’t display very well.
I found the money on Amazon for $14.74 but it includes some extras
Next up is the Han Solo In Carbonite Poster
I cropped the photo but it is actually full length Han Solo. The poster itself is ok… if I were a prop maker for a cheap Star Wars fan film I could make it into a good prop. Or to complete a Boba Fett Halloween costume lol.
Throw in some filler stuff…
add a box playset… no bonus this time because there are no Star Wars figures to play in the box.
For a grand total of $42.62 for this $20 box. Almost tied with the Nerd Block total and that box costs $10 more!
If you are interested in trying Loot Crate you can get 10% off your subscription here!
Stick around I have many more boxes to review. Then I will put them all head to head to see which one is the best value!
