This past Wednesday I had the privilege of watching Sharknado 2 The Second One at a party hosted by Comcast Xfinity. The event was held in one of their local stores to showcase the new look and feel of their stores.
The went all out for us to feel welcome in their “home” with comfy chairs around a big screen TV and a very nice spread of goodies to eat. I have to admit I had never been in one of these stores before and I was amazed by how nice they are. Gone are the days where you go into a bland building to pay your bill or exchange an old cable box. These stores are technology driven where you are allowed to come in and play with all of their new gadgets.
I got a demo of the Xfinity TV Go app that allows you to stream your TV content straight to your smartphone or tablet. In addition to live TV you are able to watch On-Demand content, and even download shows and movies to watch when you’re offline.
We then got a demo of the new Xfinity X1 platform. I’m no stranger to the X1 as I had been a guest of Comcast before at the Game Of Thrones season 4 premiere party. However, this time around I learned a few new things which I found interesting enough to point out. For starters the X1 remote is Rf as opposed to infrared. Now what does that mean? Well no more pointing the remote at the box for one… and even the Xfinity app has it’s own remote feature so you can operate your TV on your smartphone.
I was among social media professionals which was both an honor, and an intimidation. Here I am, the “little guy”, mingling in a sea of big fish (I only blog in my spare time and in no way make a living from it) so basically I kept my eyes and ears open in hopes to catch a tip or two. I would have to say I did ok for myself… at the vey least I made some new contacts… but the night really wasn’t about that it was about Sharknado 2, The Second One.
I have a confession, I’ve never seen the first one… even after the media explosion I never took the time to sit down and watch it. After all I have a DVR full of shows piling up that still need to be watched why add one more? Something told me, however, that I wasn’t going to need to see the first one in order to follow the second lol.
Apparently the original Skarknado set a record on Twitter as being the most tweeted about show ever so they were out to do it again. I’ve never tweeted up a show before but now was as good a time as any to start right? So I pulled out my phone and got comfortable and readied myself for the experience that can only be described as “watching Sharknado 2 and tweeting about it” lol.
If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you do. Nothing can really prepare you for how stupid it is… but in that stupidity I found myself cracking up! There are more B list stars crammed in this movie per square inch than there were sharks falling from the sky. Everyone was pointing at the TV like “oh oh oh I know that guy what’s his name” lol. All the while shouting out funny tweets from the web or great hashtags to use for the scene.
At the end of the night we got great little swag bags with some nice stuff including a Sharknado T-shirt. As soon as I got home I set the DVR so I could catch the first one. I think I’m going to host my own Sharkdado movie marathon this weekend lol.
This post was made possible by Comcast Xfinity. I was not paid in any way and had no obligation to create a post. I was simply given some food, a friendly atmosphere, and of course the little swag bag. All opinions are my own.
