Half-assing Halloween

I Love Halloween! It is second only to Christmas for me. I’ve got totes and totes full of Halloween décor …costumes …lasers, strobe lights, fog effects, you name it. There have been years where I’ve made my own costume from scratch. I had crazy trick-or-treat effects for when the kiddies came to the door to get candy. My love for Halloween is most apparent in my kids and how they’ve grown to love it with me.

But as my kids have grown into what is now the perfect age for Halloween fun, somehow my motivation to “go all out” has been on the decline. Slowly but surely, every year I pull out less and less. “Nah not this year maybe next year”… is what I’d say to myself until finally “maybe next year” is about all the effort I put into my decorations. Don’t get me wrong… I decorated! There’s umm… well… oh yeah I hung up that thing in the living room… and I errr uhh got a giant rat sitting by the door. (Btw his name is Mortimer but you can call him Morty). Oh and that candy… bowl… thing. That’s good enough right? My kids don’t seem to mind and the GF’s son was in awe of my measly little display. So I call that a VICTORY and I’m stickin to it!

I tell you what. NEXT year I will go all out. NEXT year I will bring out the spider webs, the giant spider, the lawn zombie, the skeletons, the bones, the fog machine, the purple and orange lights, the tomb stones, the spooky soundtrack, the window clings, the strobe light… yes! Definitely NEXT year I’m going to do it all!
